Our lab uses state of the art, human stem cell-derived organoid and assembloid technologies to understand the molecular & cellular processes that drive human brain development and disease. As part of a NIH-funded project (https://reporter.nih.gov/project-details/10850145), the successful candidate will fully funded and work towards implementing cutting-edge genomics tools to investigate developmental signaling dynamics during human neural specification. The candidate will work under the guidance and supervision of Dr. Fikri Birey, staff scientist Kaori Graybeal and will receive technical guidance from our local (Jian Hu, Emory University) and national (Jay Shendure, University of Washington; Bear Huang, Johns Hopkins University) collaborators. The candidate will closely work with the Brain Organoid Hub at Emory (www.brainorganoidhub.com) and will have direct access to the organoid expertise & training. The applicants are expected to have a PhD degree (or a year away from defending to earn a PhD degree) in a relevant scientific field including molecular biology, synthetic biology, developmental biology and/or bioengineering. Experience in functional genomics (e.g. single cell multi-omics, spatial transcriptomics, massively parallel reporter assays) genome editing (pooled CRISPR assays, prime editing) and/or high-throughput microscopy preferred.
