We welcome candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community. **Description** INTRODUCTION: The Das lab in the Dept. of Cell Biology at Emory University School of Medicine ( https://med.emory.edu/departments/cell-biology/labs/das/index.html ) is looking for a highly motivated candidate to join the team as a Lead Research Specialist. The person will be an immediate hire in a full-time laboratory technician position. The person will be in charge of the animal maintenance, cloning and molecular biology work, cell culture including primary neurons, and routine laboratory work including managing the laboratory with good organizational and management skills. This will be an excellent opportunity to learn cutting-edge technologies on RNA detection _in situ_ , and high-resolution imaging of mRNAs and proteins in neurons. JOB DESCRIPTION: + Under minimal supervision, performs a variety of specialized and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures. + Uses independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques. + May assist in protocol design. Investigates and proposes alternative experimental procedures for consideration by a principal investigator. Assists in planning and scheduling research procedures. Analyzes and interprets results of studies. + Demonstrates and trains others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment. + Calibrates, troubleshoots and performs routine repair and maintenance of equipment. + Reviews literature for related research developments and techniques and compiles findings. + Monitors laboratory processes to maintain quality assurance standards. + Records results of studies, compiles and analyzes data and prepares charts and graphs. + Monitors the handling, storage and disposal of hazardous substances. + Performs related responsibilities as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: + Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and two years of research experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training. PREFFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: + Previous hands-on experience in handling and working with mice + Hands-on experience with cell culture and maintenanc + Molecular biology skills including mammalian DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, western blot + Expertise in fluorescence imaging is preferred + Knowledge of cellular biology techniques including immunostaining, fluorescence microscopy and image analysis + Strong organizational and interpersonal skills NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option.
